Do humans judge others on purpose?

Statement: Is it human nature for people to classify themselves into groups and judge others?

In my opinion, yes it is. Go back a couple steps in human evolution and take a look at apes. In a group of apes there is an alpha male and a weakling who is neglected and ignored and this is reflected  on modren society. We classify people in many different ways it is actually extremely complicated. Nerds and Jocks are a classic example. In almost every movie that has a school environment there are always Nerds and Jocks or Popular and Unpopular, Theater Kids and Band Geeks and it's not just limited to that nor is it limited to school. Adults will judge other adults in many ways. One of the classic judgements are passed by looking at houses. When a house is falling apart or the yard is filled with car wrecks most people will instantly judge the person who lives there. They don't even have to know the person, but they assume they are poor or have hoarding problem, but in my opinion our brains are hard wired that way. Leave your opinions in the comments!

Mindset

In class, we are studying mindset and i was very intrigued to learn that we were to take a quiz to determine our mindset. I completed the quiz to learn that I had what they called a Growth Mindset. A growth mindset is a belief that abilities come from hard work and dedication compared to a Fixed mindset which is a belief that you are born with a certain level of intelligence or skill. To be honest i was very happy with my quiz results, but I am not sure this quiz would work for everyone. A large abundance of people have a fixed mindset about one thing and a growth mindset about another. For example, some people say " I am not a math person" or "I can't do math" but while playing sports are very confident and open. That does not mean they have a definite Fixed mindset or a Growth one. They are in the middle. Everyone has activities they are confident or excel in and then believe they are not good or will never get better in another. Than if everyone has a mix of both mindsets, how can we determine what mindset we are? I am not claiming I do not believe in mindsets, i just don't think everyone has a specific one.
Also we read a very interesting article by Maria Popova and she made some valid points. That a person's behavior and outlook on life is affected by their mindset and she also took note of Carol Dweck's work with young children to determine if mindset is evident in children. Which according to the research it was, but again I still don't believe that everyone has ONE mindset. In her experiment, the children were given easy puzzles and asked to solve them. When solved they were given praise. Some children were praised on intelligence, some on effort. They then gave the children the option of completing a harder puzzle or another simple one. A large majority of the children praised for effort chose the harder puzzle and the children who were praised for intelligence chose the easier ones which shows that the ones that chose the simpler puzzle had a fixed mindset and the harder puzzle have a growth mindset, which was an interesting conclusion but it also proves my point. The child's mindset were affected by PRAISE, so the child does not have a specific mindset, the choices they made were manipulated by the type of praise given.

To conclude, I believe in mindset but it is not ingrained and depends on the activity. Until next time

About Me

My name isRendered Image, the girl in the picture above. I was born in a small town in Northern Ontario on a cold November day in 2001. Which is cold, bleak and snowy and contrary to popular belief not polar bear infested in the winter but perfect in the summer. I still live here but my life is a bit more complex than that. I don't like to call myself an "introvert" because I think that is a overused and commonly misused word to describe people who spend an above average amount of time inside my own head, but I guess if that is what introverted is than I guess I am introverted. I am also a stereotypical artsy kid. Musician, Poet, Writer, Actress, Artist... Anything that has to do with the arts you can almost guarantee I am interested but I do play sports like basketball and I am a competitive swimmer with TNL, our local swim team. I have a abnormal attraction to water. I seem quiet but I am not shy. In fact, when I get to know you I feel a need to get closer to you and share everything which is one of my greatest flaws (maybe that's why I am introverted...), so I express myself through writing, music or art. I have a composition book filled to the brim with poems (and spelling corrections) about almost every concept of my life from love to fame, I have a sketchbook falling apart from years of travelling or being thrown across the room in artblock rage ( to all of the artists reading you know what I am talking about). I have a little brother named Carter who is erhm... talkative whom I love dearly and have both parents Kevin and Jen who I love also. My favorite color is Seafoam Green not only because of the name but it may be that I love anything blue or similar to blue but don't tell any other colors that because I don't want to hurt their feelings... I also have a passion for fashion and I am really into Boho/Hipster/Skateboarder styles. I may seem really girly but I am not a full "Girly" girl. I skateboard and play video games once in a while but most of my life is consumed with music studies. I don't go through a day without encountering music somehow weather it be practicing it or listening to it. I spend about 8-9 hours a week just practicing music. Singing, Piano, Merlin, Ukelele, Guitar... Anything i can get my hands on! The rest of the time I am listening to music. My favorite genres to listen to are alternative, rock, love and dare I say it, Pop. One of my favorite musicians is probably Ed Sheeran. Thats right! I am a Sheerio. You will probably learn more about me as I continue to blog, so until next time
